Wigan Civic Trust

History

Wigan Civic Trust was founded in 1975 at an inaugural meeting held in the Town Hall, King Street, Wigan. Over one hundred and fifty people attended.

The secretary Dacre Brown was a driving force who led the Trust forward into all the avenues for which it was founded. Concern for the environment, preservation and restoration of buildings, an earnest desire to preserve and improve the best in the Town of Wigan.

Early meetings were held in The Tomas Linacre School. The society had an input into "The Galleries" and influenced the outcome giving evidence in the Public Inquiry.

The present officers continue the tradition of concern over the environment and heritage in Wigan.
